Automobiles in Germany's City Discovered Marked with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm
Local Police
Roughly 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Officers state they were notified during the night on Wednesday evening, when a resident observed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The fluid had been placed in the pattern of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations banning the public exhibition of Nazi-era symbols.
Police report initial examinations suggest the liquid was most likely human blood.
"There is still no indication as to its origin; officials are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Local authorities stated they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
An important representative said the incident rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.
"This event affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the extremist violent incident in 2020," he stated on online, recalling the killing of nine victims by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in five years prior.
